i genuinely do not understand why other trans mascs are so desperate, and i mean desperate, to throw other trans men and trans mascs under the bus. it’s actually so infuriating.

like i get on this website to vent, to look at funny and horny posts, and to talk about my experiences as a low income jewish trans man in a state that is currently actively trying to criminalize being trans. so when i log onto tumblr dot com and see teenage trans mascs shouting to the rooftops that my literal actual lived experiences don’t matter, that i should sit down and shut up while my state actively participates in genocide against trans people, is like. kind of fucking bonkers!!!!!!!!!!

image

this attitude is insane to me!!!!!!!! do u think the bigots in my state government are sitting here going “ok so this group gets double genocided bc they’re trans AND women, but this group just gets regular genocided bc they’re just trans. actually maybe we just ignore them since they’re masc” NO!!!!!!!!!!! my government is literally specifically targeting trans men and mascs for not being the women they want us to be!!!! so much of this legislation talks about our breasts and our vaginas and our fertility bc patriarchal white supremacists want us reproducing like good little quiet women. they are incensed by the fact that people they see as women are saying “no, actually, i’m a man” because they think that manhood is a birthright only given to cishet men. like. idk how many more ways i can say this!!!!!!!!! y’all need to fucking pay attention and stop making your discourse so painfully based on online dynamics bc it is going to hurt real life people!!!!!!!!

cis women if you call yourself a trans ally but the concept of trans people with uteri disappears from your mind the second you start talking about reproductive autonomy your trans allyship is bullshit and so is your intersectionality. you have no fucking clue how terrifying it is to be trans with a uterus right now. you have no idea how many trans people suffer and die because of trans erasure in healthcare language. we see you talking about respecting pronouns while talking about “women’s bodies” and “but if MEN could get pregnant–” either put the words “people who can get pregnant” and “reproductive transphobia” on your tongue or shut the fuck up.

& i wanna be real clear this post is not directed to terfs or conservative transphobes this is directed at YOU, the liberal/leftist cis woman reading this, who uses the right pronouns and says “why can’t you just respect their gender!” but can’t be fucking bothered to change how you talk about reproductive justice to include trans people. i don’t wanna hear about your trans solidarity when it all crumbles to dust the minute you actually have to put in some effort. i don’t wanna hear you whine about how the big mean trannys are making you be intersectional in a way that’s upsetting your cis privilege while trans people die because they can’t get fucking coverage for “women’s health” procedures with M/X on their insurance

& if you think this means you shouldn’t talk about misogyny, you are wrong and clearly don’t talk to trans activists. trans people are constantly talking about we are affected by misogyny. you can talk about misogyny without misgendering trans people. ASK ME and I will give you tips for how to talk about reproductive justice while including trans people & the ways trans people are uniquely impacted by this. But I cannot express how fucking cheap your allyship feels when you quickly drop your trans-inclusive language to say the most cissexist shit about pregnancy

By the way if you can’t handle trans people being angry with your bad allyship, that is not my problem. I am very open to people who want to change and grow and I am willing to help people learn (which is why I say that in the fucking post). But I’m sorry I’m allowed to be fucking pissed when I am constantly surrounded by liberal/leftist cis women who I know DAMN WELL have a general understanding of trans allyship (which is why this post begins by addressing cis women who call themselves trans allies!!!) who do this shit over and over and over. This is a tumblr post not a representation of how I talk to people in my day to day life. Trans people are allowed to be angry.

Especially when there is a non-zero chance, every time a cis woman does this, that if you correct her she will interpret this as her being Silenced by the Trans Agenda and start telling you how you are Erasing Women and Obscuring the Problem. When trans people educate cis people, especially cis people we don’t know well, there is inherent danger (as there is to any marginalized person in the same situation). We have to put our own emotions and trauma aside to explain the basics of our struggles to cis people, and we have to do so while being careful not to make them angry with us for daring to correct them. Which is why it should be on cis women allies to show that they do not support the transphobic “erasing women” narrative y putting their money where their fucking mouth is.

If you know what a trans man is, and have a general understanding of trans activism, and the phrase “but if MEN could get pregnant” comes out of your mouth then you are transphobic and need to do some deep thinking about where your trans allyship suddenly ends and why. This is a minor linguistic issue in many cis women’s minds but it can be life or death for trans people so yeah. I’m gonna be a little snippy in this one post.

A continuation on my post about unloved foods, specifically this is my in-depth defense of root beer.

Root Beer isn’t inherently gross, it’s just one of those weird local flavors that’s off-putting to people who didn’t grow up with it. We all like different things and also we all tend to like flavors that are similar to what we grew up with. That’s okay! But honestly root beer is pretty unique and, in my opinion, delicious.

One of the main complaints against root beer is that it tastes like medicine. Funnily enough, it was originally marketed as medicinal! This is true for most OG sodas actually. Pretty much as soon as carbonated water was invented, people were drinking it to soothe various ailments. A lot of the original soft drinks were actually invented by pharmacists. I just think that root beer is especially cool because the main flavor came from the root bark of sassafras, a common North American shrub. Because it’s so widespread and aromatic, all parts of the sassafras plant have been used in food and medicine by many different Native American tribes throughout history and was subsequently picked up and used by European colonists. In the 1960s, some studies indicated that that safrole oil, which is produced by the plant, can cause liver damage. Whether or not this would actually remain true after it had been boiled and added to root beer is unclear, but it was really easy to replicate the flavor, so the sassafras in commercial root beer these days is artificial. Another fun fact about safrole is that it’s a precursor in the synthesis of MDMA. None of this information has stopped my childhood habit of eating sassfras leaves right off the shrub whenever I walk past it on a hike. I’m like 85% sure it’s safe and also mmmm yummy leafs go crunch.

Another root beer complaint is that it tastes like toothpaste. I think this is probably because another key flavor in most root beer recipes is wintergreen. I’m assuming that the people who think this are the same people who think mint chocolate chip ice cream tastes like toothpaste. I can understand and even respect that some people don’t like mint and associate it only with brushing their teeth, but like. Mint is a pretty common flavor. I mean I think it’s safe to say that humans have been eating mint flavored stuff for longer than toothpaste has existed… anyway!

Other common flavors in root beer (real or artificial) are caramel, vanilla, black cherry bark, sarsaparilla root, ginger, and many more! There’s not one official recipe, and root beer enthusiasts often have strong opinions about different brands. Some root beer is sharper, with more strong aromatic flavors, and others are mild and creamier.

Another thing I think is cool about root beer is that it’s foamier than most sodas. This was originally because sassafras is a natural surfactant (and why sassafras is also a common thickening agent in Louisiana Creole cooking.) These days, other plant starches or similar ingredients are added to keep the distinctive foam. Root beer foam > all other soft drink foams. That’s why root beer floats kick more ass than like, coke floats.

If you’ve never had root beer before, imagine if a sweetened herbal tea was turned into a soda, because that’s basically what it is. If your first response to that is a cringe, fair enough. That’s why lots of people don’t like it. If your first response to that is “interesting… I might actually like it, though” then I encourage you to track down a can of root beer today, hard as that might be outside the US and Canada. Next time you see an “ew, root beer tastes like medicine/tooth paste” take, know that there’s a reason for that, but also the same could be said for literally any herbal or minty food/drink.

My final take on root beer is that it would be the soda of choice for gnomes. Thank you and good night.

‘your parents just want what’s best for you’ that is objectively not true for a lot of people, sometimes they want what’s best for them or what looks the best to other people, or what they think is best for you is based on outdated, backwards and messed up values & beliefs. even if their intentions aren’t bad doesn’t mean they even remotely know what’s good for you

the road to hell is paved with “What’s best for you”
